Reiki Attunement:
The process of a Reiki attunement isn't necessarily a healing session, although it can be. It actually creates or initiates the healer within. A Reiki attunement connects the receiver in an increased way to the limitless source of Ki (life force energy) that Creator empowers us with. Upon receiving the first attunement in Reiki I, the receiver becomes a channel for this universal healing energy.

The attunements themselves are what set Reiki apart; without this process - which must be passed from Reiki Master/Teacher to student - the healing system is not Reiki but something else.

Attunements are given one on one or in small groups depending on the skill and abilities of the Reiki Master/Teacher. They can be performed in elaborate ceremonies with beautiful rituals or quickly and without ceremony. The attunement does not give the receiver anything new, but simply opens and expands that which was already there. It is an amplification of the energy channel which we all have but rarely are aware of or use in any conscious way. The Reiki I attunement magnifies one's ability to channel the universal life force energy by a factor of 10.

A Reiki I attunement, when done in the traditional Usui way, typically takes a full day. This includes 4 attunements at 2-hour intervals with additional training and sharing during the waiting periods. It typically takes 3 to 4 weeks to adjust to the attunement. This is because the increased flow of energy can and does bring up old emotional baggage, energetic blockages and the like for you to resolve and/or eliminate from your being; your newly increased capacity to channel Ki is clearing the aura and chakras.

The Reiki consciousness considers both practitioner and client to be in need of healing, so both receive treatment. Because Reiki is guided by God-consciousness, it can never do harm. It always knows what a person needs and will adjust itself to create the effect that is appropriate for them. The practitioner is not doing the healing. Understanding this fact makes it much easier for the ego to stay out fo the way and allow the presence of God to clearly shine through.
